How to use it

Enter the room rate per night and the number of nights.
Enter how many travelers are splitting the bill.
Choose whether the resort/city tax is a flat fee per night or a percentage.
Read the total bill and each traveler's share.

Formula

Room subtotal = rate per night × nights. Tax = (flat fee × nights) or (subtotal × tax % ÷ 100). Total = subtotal + tax. Per traveler = total ÷ number of travelers.

Worked example

A $180/night room for 4 nights with 3 travelers splitting it, plus a 12% resort tax: subtotal = $720, tax = $86.40, total = $806.40, or $268.80 per traveler.

Interpreting your result

This assumes every traveler is sharing the same room for the same number of nights and splitting the total evenly. If one person stayed extra nights or had a separate room, calculate that portion separately.

• Resort/city taxes are billed both ways depending on the hotel and destination.
• If the group includes someone staying a different number of nights, work out their fair share separately.
