About the Life Expectancy Estimator
Estimates illustrative life expectancy from real CDC actuarial population data at a handful of specific ages, interpolated between them, then adjusted by two lifestyle factors (smoking status and exercise level) using directional, study-cited effect sizes — a population-statistics illustration, not a personal prediction.

A 35-year-old male who never smoked and exercises moderately: interpolated CDC base life expectancy around 77-78 years total, adjusted up by about 1.8 years for moderate exercise (no smoking penalty since he never smoked) — an illustrative total around 79-80 years.

This is a population-statistics illustration, not a personal prediction. It starts from real CDC actuarial base rates for a handful of specific ages and applies directional, study-cited adjustments for exactly two lifestyle factors. It does not and cannot account for genetics, family history, healthcare access, specific medical conditions, environment, injury risk, or the countless other factors — most of them un-modelable by any calculator — that actually determine any one individual's lifespan. Smoking's roughly 10-year reduction is one of the most consistently replicated findings in public-health research (CDC tobacco-mortality data); the exercise gains use pooled cohort estimates from Moore et al., PLOS Medicine (2012, ~654,827 participants). Never use this number for insurance, financial, or medical decisions.
- • This is most reliable exactly at the 6 sourced ages (0, 40, 60, 65, 70, 80) — ages between them are interpolated, and ages above 80 are extrapolated, which is the least reliable region this tool produces.
- • Smoking's roughly 10-year reduction is one of the most consistently replicated findings in public-health research — quitting (even as a 'former smoker') recovers a meaningful portion of that, though not all of it in this simplified model.
- • Exercise gains here (1.8 to 4.5 years) come from a single large pooled-cohort study — real individual outcomes vary substantially and depend on far more than these two factors alone.
