About the Square Footage Calculator

Calculates square footage for rectangular rooms (add as many as you like and they'll be summed), a triangle, or a circle — with the total always shown in both square feet and square meters.

How to use it
  1. Pick a shape: one or more rectangular rooms, a triangle, or a circle.
  2. Enter the dimensions — length/width per room, or base/height, or radius.
  3. Read the total area in both sq ft and m², regardless of which unit you entered in.
Formula
Rectangle: length × width, summed across every room added. Triangle: ½ × base × height. Circle: π × radius². 1 sq m = 10.76391 sq ft.
Worked example

Two rooms, 12ft × 10ft and 8ft × 8ft: 120 + 64 = 184 sq ft (17.10 m²) total.

Recommendations
  • Measure interior wall-to-wall dimensions for the closest match to how real estate listings typically report square footage — this tool doesn't subtract wall thickness or closets.
  • Add a room for every rectangular space you want included, then switch to Triangle or Circle mode separately for an odd-shaped room, adding its area to your running total by hand.
  • Switching the unit toggle converts your input, not just the display — enter meters directly in metric mode rather than converting ft to m yourself first.
Frequently asked questions
No — it's pure geometry (length × width, or the triangle/circle formula). Real listed square footage sometimes differs based on measurement convention (interior vs. exterior walls).
