Each holiday falls on a fixed Hebrew-calendar date (e.g. Rosh Hashanah = 1 Tishrei, Yom Kippur = 10 Tishrei, Passover = 15 Nisan); this tool searches the small window of Hebrew years that could plausibly overlap the requested Gregorian year and returns whichever one actually lands there — Purim is handled specially, since its Hebrew month (Adar vs. Adar II) depends on whether that specific Hebrew year is a leap year.
