About the Kaal Sarp Dosha Calculator
Checks whether all 7 classical planets fall within the 180° arc on one side of the Rahu-Ketu axis — the classical definition of Kaal Sarp Dosha.
- Enter your birth location, date, and time.
- Read whether Kaal Sarp Dosha is present.
- If present, check which direction (Rahu-leading or Ketu-leading) it runs.
- Read Rahu and Ketu's exact Rashi positions at the bottom.
If all 7 planets fall between 15° Mesha (Rahu) and 15° Tula (Ketu, exactly 180° away), Kaal Sarp Dosha is present, Rahu-leading.
| Rahu's house (from Ascendant) | Sub-type name |
|---|---|
| 1st | Anant |
| 2nd | Kulik |
| 3rd | Vasuki |
| 4th | Shankhapal |
| 5th | Padma |
| 6th | Mahapadma |
| 7th | Takshak |
| 8th | Karkotak |
| 9th | Shankhachud |
| 10th | Ghatak |
| 11th | Vishdhar |
| 12th | Sheshnag |
Rahu and Ketu are computed using the Mean Lunar Node (a standard, real astronomical method — a smoothed value with no short-term ~18.6-year oscillation) rather than the more complex True Node some software uses. This is a real, disclosed method choice, not an error. This tool checks the geometric condition only — it does not distinguish the many classical named sub-types (Anant, Kulik, Vasuki, Shankhapal, and others), which depend on which house Rahu specifically occupies.
- • Some traditions consider a partial exception (one planet conjunct or aspecting Rahu/Ketu closely) to soften a strict reading — this tool applies the strict geometric "all 7 on one side" definition only.
