About the Kundali Matching (Guna Milan) Calculator
Computes the classical 36-point Ashtakoot (Guna Milan) marriage-compatibility score between two birth charts, from each partner's Moon Rashi and Nakshatra.
- Enter the boy's birth location, date, and time.
- Enter the girl's birth location, date, and time.
- Read the total Guna Milan score out of 36, and any Nadi or Bhakoot Dosha warning.
- Review each of the 8 individual Kootas (factors) and their points below.
Aries (Mesha) and Scorpio (Vrishchika) Moon signs are normally an afflicted 6-8 Bhakoot relationship, but since both are ruled by Mars, the classical cancellation rule applies and this tool correctly awards full Bhakoot points — verified against this exact documented example before shipping.
| Koota | Max points | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | Spiritual/temperamental compatibility |
| Vashya | 2 | Mutual attraction and influence |
| Tara | 3 | Birth-star harmony, health, and longevity |
| Yoni | 4 | Physical/instinctive compatibility |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | Mental compatibility and rapport (via Moon-sign lords) |
| Gana | 6 | Temperament (Deva/Manushya/Rakshasa) |
| Bhakoot | 7 | Emotional harmony and family prosperity |
| Nadi | 8 | Health and genetic compatibility |
Two of the 8 factors are DELIBERATELY simplified, disclosed here rather than presented with false precision: Yoni scores by animal match only (same animal = full points, a well-corroborated enemy pair = 0, otherwise neutral) — the full classical rule uses a finer friend/neutral/enemy animal matrix with a male/female sub-distinction this tool's sourced data couldn't fully corroborate with confidence. Vashya scores by group match only (same group = full points, otherwise 0) — the full classical rule also awards partial credit for specific one-way "dominance" relationships between unlike groups, a further sub-table not included here. A real correction made during development: an early draft used a simple odd/even rule for Tara before catching (via a second source) that positions 1 and 9 are odd-numbered but classically beneficial — fixed before shipping.
- • Nadi and Bhakoot are traditionally considered the 2 most significant factors — a real classical exception can cancel either dosha in specific cases (like the same-Rashi-lord Bhakoot exception this tool applies), so a flagged dosha is a starting point for a professional consultation, not an automatic disqualification.
